Small Brown Stomach Worm (T. (O.) circumcincta) not less than 91 days

Black Scour Worm (Trichostrongylus colubriformis) up to 49 days

MAXIMUS Long Acting Injection for Sheep has been shown to protect sheep against severe challenge by Barber’s Pole worm (Haemonchus contortus) for up to 4 months.

MAXIMUS Long Acting Injection for Sheep is effective against sensitive strains of the following parasites:

-  Internal parasites (*adult and immature L4)

o   Trichostrongylus spp. (Black Scour Worm)*

o   Trichostrongylus axei (Stomach Hair worm)*

CONTROL OF RESISTANT STRAINS

MAXIMUS Long Acting Injection for Sheep (LA) controls moxidectin sensitive strains of internal parasites even if they are resistant to benzimidazole and levamisole products. MAXIMUS LA has shown efficacy against a number of avermectin resistant strains of H. contortus and Teladorsagia (Ostertagia) spp. However, as MAXIMUS LA shares a similar mechanism of action to the avermectins, it should not be used where avermectin resistance is present, except where specifically recommended by an advisor. Resistance may develop to any anthelmintic. It is advisable that a drench resistance test be conducted before any anthelmintic treatment is used.

SUSTAINED ACTIVITY

The sustained activity of MAXIMUS LA prevents the reinfection of stock with susceptible parasitic Barber’s Pole worm and small brown stomach worm larvae for 91 days, and for up to 49 days for black sour worm. For this reason, MAXIMUS LA may be of benefit to susceptible stock under challenge from reinfection, including lambs during the post-weaning period and ewes during lactation.

SHEEP DOSE RATE

The dose rate of MAXIMUS LA is 1mL/20kg bodyweight. It should be given by subcutaneous injection at the base of the ear or high on the neck behind the ear using standard equipment. Administer subcutaneously only, not intravenously or intramuscularly. Do not use in lambs less than 20kg bodyweight.

Animals heavier than 90kg should be dosed at 0.5mL per 10kg.

RETREATMENT INTERVAL

Sheep must not be retreated for at least 91 days after administration.

ANIMAL SAFETY

Do not use MAXIMUS LA in lambs less than 20kg bodyweight. MAXIMUS LA is not recommended for use in goats as safety and efficacy have not been evaluated. MAXIMUS LA has a wide margin of safety when used as directed and is safe to use at the same time as other treatments including vaccines and mineral supplements. It is recommended that vaccines are injected on the opposite side of the neck.
